Many gamers continue to favor their familiar systems, even as technology evolves. Recent data from Steam's hardware and software assessment for January indicates that over 44% of users still depend on Windows 10. This comes despite Microsoft’s plan to phase out support for the operating system on October 14 of this year. Adoption rates for Windows 11 have been sluggish; though available for almost four years now, many users find its new features not particularly enticing or easy to recognize.
Another significant limitation impacting the transition to Windows 11 is its stringent hardware requirements, which rule out support for numerous older processors. This has particularly affected users with aging laptops.
According to the survey, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 ranks as the most popular graphics card among those gaming on Steam. The data also shows that 16 GB of RAM is the typical setup, and a majority of users possess hard drives with storage exceeding 1 TB, alongside free space ranging between 100 and 249 GB.
